Biography

Mimi Buescher graduated from Gonzaga University School of Law, with a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1980. Afterward, opportunity came her way and she accepted a job teaching a law class in the Law Department of the University of Malawi, in Zomba, Malawi, Africa, where she lived for two years. Working, and traveling in many countries in Africa, she was able to take advantage of learning about, and observing dramatically different legal systems. Her first-hand exposure to the contrasts of various legal systems, so different from that of our country, where civil rights exist and are protected, instilled in her an even greater respect for the protections of the U.S. Constitution that we all enjoy.

Mimi brought this passion to bear in her new position, representing individuals charged with crimes and involved in civil disputes in Salt Lake City. where her representation of a juvenile client charged with murder fueled her commitment to represent persons in a public defense setting. And later, she worked for several years as a City Attorney, where she assisted in various task forces and handled a large and complex caseload. She was selected to serve as a Magistrate for Salt Lake City, in which capacity she presided over a range of matters in municipal court.

Hired away from all of this by the public defender office in Seattle where she first teamed up with Craig Platt, she once again gained notoriety by winning the award for the most successful trial lawyer in the office. When Craig wanted to meet this new lawyer, who had upstaged him, they hit it off and decided to join forces, bringing their formidable skills to bear when they both relocated to Saipan. There Craig served as Chief Prosecutor and Mimi drafted appeals to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. In one very notorious murder prosecution, Mimi and Craig collaborated, with Mimi writing the briefs and Craig flying to San Francisco to argue the appeal in the Ninth Circuit. They cemented a working relationship that continues to this day.

Ultimately, Mimi was recruited by the premier civil law firm in Micronesia, where she obtained amazing results for her clients at trial on personal injury and assorted civil matters. After returning home to Washington State, Mimi joined Craig Platt and Associates in 1990 which eventually became Platt and Buescher, Attorneys at Law.

Mimi has an impressive record in court. Although she focuses her practice on Family Law and Civil Litigation, she still puts her extensive criminal experience to good use in District Court matters and continues to work with Craig on complex felonies. Mimi believes that her job is to help clients improve their lives, and she works very hard to make sure that happens. Kind and compassionate with her clients, she is known as a tenacious presence in the courtroom, where she continues to fight hard for justice. Mimi is available for consultation on family law matters, as well as District Court criminal cases, where, she also served as a Pro Tem Judge.
